Angelina Oblak Arts & Science Representative Candidate

Headshot of Angelina Oblak

Hello and Oki,
My name is Angelina Oblak, and I use she/her pronouns. I am currently in my fifth year at the University of Lethbridge, pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences with minors in Liberal Education and Neuroscience. I am running for one of the positions as the 2024-2025 Arts & Science Representative. My move from Calgary to Lethbridge was driven by my desire for independence and the unique academic opportunities the university offers. I've actively participated in various research projects and the Co-op program at our university, gaining a practical understanding of how to navigate these academic paths and the uncertainties many face in undergraduate studies. I am deeply involved in the campus community, contributing my time and energy to various clubs and events. I have been actively involved with the Student Union’s Biology Club and with the iGEM team over the past two years. I’ve seen and learned a great deal about student experiences and I am driven to create a collaborative and integrative environment with multiple perspective and encouraging students to enhance interdisciplinary skills.
Outside of academics I try to keep my life more interesting. I’m a huge animal lover having had various pets growing up and if university wasn’t so time consuming I would probably have an considerable amount of dogs. I would say I enjoy hiking (which I do) but I probably don’t do it often enough to call it a hobby but when I do go I’m that person who takes pictures of cool mushrooms and weird plants.

What do you know about the position you are running for?

What are some of the initiatives you would like to implement if you are elected?

As a candidate for the Arts & Science Representative, my platform is built on the foundation of fostering transparency and clarity, advocating for diverse perspectives, and supporting student needs.I am committed to ensuring that students have clear and open communication with the administration, and I will advocate for clear and straightforward access to university resources, policies, and decision-making processes. I also want to ensure that all students have a comprehensive understanding of their academic paths, including course requirements, financial aid, and career services. Recognizing the strength in our diversity, I will work tirelessly to ensure an inclusive campus culture where all voices are heard and respected. I aim to collaborate with student groups and organizations to support events and discussions that highlight various student experiences and views. Overall, my goal is to address the comprehensive needs of students—academic support, financial assistance, social connections, mental well-being, and food security—to create a supportive and enriching university experience. I believe in a university environment that is inclusive, supportive, and responsive to the needs of its students, and if elected, I will strive to make this vision a reality.
