Kimoya Edwards Arts & Science Representative Candidate

Headshot of Kimoya Edwards

I was born and raised in Jamaica for the first 13 years of my life and I moved to Canada in 2016 and started university in 2021. I am a 3rd year Neuroscience major and I hope to continue my studies after university in medical school to become a child neurologist. Other than my focus on academics, I have a burning passion for running especially the sprints. I am a 60m hurdler and sprinter on the U of L Pronghorn track and field team and I have being since my first year three years ago. One highlight of my track career so far was being blessed to make the school record in my first year and continuing to break it every year. It’s something that I am so proud of myself for and will always remember even if I don’t do track forever. When I am not on the field running, you can catch me volunteering at the hospital, the YMCA in children services, as a mentor for the Big Brother Big Sister society and a youth leader at my church. Volunteering and helping my community has being an activity that helped me feel connected when I first moved to Canada and it’s something I will hope to continue because giving back to the community helps me give back to the country that has helped me accomplish so much in my life so far. In the past three years I have being so blessed to be a member of various schools clubs like the pre- med club, a secretary for the Rotary club and a VP of Internal affairs for the ULBSA club. Serving as a member of so many different clubs has helped to open my perspective and provided a wonderful outlook on university life. I am beyond joyous that this past school year has allowed me to be a part of the Gibb Lab doing an independent study because it is an experience to put to reality what I learn in class and I can’t express how such an experience has changed me and made me more confident in who I am and what I can do. However, my life is not just school focussed, I enjoy watching tv shows and at the moment I am watching ‘Bear’ but other than spending my free time watching tv shows, I enjoy a good book to read and cleaning because there is no better feeling to me than one where you turn what was since dirty into clean and sparkling. Last but not least, I’d like to finish saying that I am beyond excited to have the pleasure of running for your VP of arts and science and can’t wait to learn more about you guys and show you what I can do.
