Kate Brown Arts & Science Representative

Oki and Hello Everyone!

My name is Kate Brown and I am running for Arts and Science Representative in the 2025 General Election. I am a second-year Biological Sciences student in pursuit of a career in optometry. Before I get into my initiatives and perception of the position I am running for, I want to tell you a bit about myself. I was born and raised in the Crowsnest Pass which is an hour and a half West from Lethbridge. I love being outdoors and enjoying hiking, backpacking, and I’m an amateur rock climber. I am a Rotaract club member, as a member I volunteer with organizations around the university and the community. Last December, I helped organize Cards for the Elderly and a Clothing Drive for UofL students. I also enjoy volunteering with Let’s Talk Science on occasion. Outside of the University, I love crocheting, reading, and baking.

I decided to run to be a part of the Students’ Union because I want to serve as the voice for students and listen to students' concerns. As a General Assembly member, I will advocate for UofL students, help organize events on campus, and collaborate with other members of the Students’ Union. If I am elected I will ensure a future where every student can succeed academically, socially, and mentally. Through collaboration, I will advocate for students' mental health and continue to host events that create a tight knit community on campus.

What do you know about the position you are running for?

What are some of the initiatives you would like to implement if you are elected?

Mental Health Support
I plan to continue to prioritise students’ mental health by expanding resources and creating a culture of care and understanding on campus. I will advocate for and collaborate with other SU members to increase the mental health resources to students, such as, increasing the accessibility to on-campus counsellors. I will continue to collaborate and throw events to reduce the stigma and educate students on early-signs of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Student Engagement
I will create a close-knit community on campus by increasing student involvement and participation. I will collaborate to host a variety of events that cater to diverse interests and backgrounds. I will listen to students and what events they want on campus, this will increase student engagement and participation. I will encourage and facilitate opportunities for students to get involved within the Lethbridge community. Volunteering and community service increases overall wellbeing and creates a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

I ensure the creation of a close-knit campus community and a culture of care and understanding at the University of Lethbridge. I will work together with other SU members to increase student engagement and advocate for the mental health of students.
