Orion Legg Arts & Science Representative

Hi U of L, my name’s Orion Legg and I’m a 3rd year physics major running for the position of Arts and Science Rep. I am passionate about becoming part of the Student’s Union (SU) general assembly for the chance that it would give me to bridge the students voice to faculty and beyond. The decision to run was only made after much consideration and I intend to represent students thoughtfully through my term, should I be elected. I am currently the president of the Uleth Ping Pong Club an athlete with the pronghorns track and field team so I have can offer a lens from multiple side of the student world. These experiences have given me an appreciation for the opportunities that university outside of classes can bring to students and I want to see those benefits brought to all students. Whether that is better marketing, more events, more clubs, or more consideration brought to operations, my goal is to enrich student experience.
What do you know about the position you are running for?
What are some of the initiatives you would like to implement if you are elected?
Should I be voted into the role of Arts and Science Rep, I would be a forceful student advocate. I run with 3 facets of the student experience in mind: the social, the extracurricular, and the academic. Social connection is crucial to a great university experience. Furthering the resources, events, and opportunities for all students to form connections is a central focus of mine. Extracurricular activities are a known way for anyone to become a part of the student body, rather than a passive bystander. I hope to work to better the visibility and quality of clubs student-accepting organizations to enable students to enrich their journey through university Academic benefits for students cannot be overlooked in the importance of the SU. Bettering the system to advocate for grade appeals and pushing for more fair class curriculum standards are a key part of my what I hope to accomplish in my time with the SU.
